The Law of the Republic of Armenia
Dear Intended Parent
We are now providing the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the Law of the Republic of Armenia. In this case, Article 12 of the officially published law is being used, which you may review independently via the provided link: https://www.arlis.am/hy/acts/195987
In the Republic of Armenia, it is allowed to use assisted insemination with husband's or donor sperm and the following assisted reproduction technologies:
  • Artificial (in vitro/in vitro) fertilization with husband's or donor sperm and embryo implantation.
  • Implantation of a donor embryo in the uterus of a surrogate mother.
The following have the right to use assisted human reproductive technologies:
● Spouses who are in a registered (legally recognized) marriage in accordance with the procedure established by the legislation of the Republic of Armenia, only with the mutual consent of the woman (spouse), if one of the spouses has not reached the age of 55 years (in case of pregnancy, the limiting age for a woman is 53 years).
● A man or a woman under the age of 55 who is not in a registered (legally recognized) marriage in accordance with the procedure established by the legislation of the Republic of Armenia, at his/her own will only if they use their own eggs or their own sperm (in case of pregnancy, the limiting age for a woman shall be 53 years).
The human right to use assisted reproductive technologies in relation to using assisted reproductive technologies through a surrogate does not extend to:
  • On an unmarried man who is not the biological parent of the future child.
  • A woman who has no medical contraindications to carry pregnancy.
  • Foreign citizens who are not Armenians by citizenship, with regard to the application of assisted reproductive technologies through a surrogate mother who is a citizen of the Republic of Armenia.
Who will be indicated on the child's birth certificate:
If you are a married couple: both of you will be indicated in the child's birth certificate
if you are a single parent, only your name will be indicated in the birth certificate
